Greece (Greek: Ελλάδα, Elláda [elˈlaða]) or the official Republic of Helen (Greek: Ελληνική Δημοκρατία Ellinikí Dimokratía [eliniˈki ðimokraˈti.a]) is a country in Southeast Europe. As of 2017, the population of Greece is around 10,768 million people. Its capital and largest city is Athens, while the second most populous city is Thessaloniki.

Europe, Asia and Africa, which is located at the intersection of Greece, is located on the southern tip of the Balkan Peninsula and northwest Albania, Macedonia and Bulgaria to the north, in the northeastern borders with Turkey. It consists of nine geographical regions: the Aegean Islands, Epirus, Crete, Ionian Islands, Macedonia, Peloponnese, Central Greece, Thessaly and Thrace. To the east of the mainland lies the Aegean Sea, to the west the Ionian Sea, to the south the Cretan Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. Greece has a large number of islands inhabited in 227 and is the first in the Mediterranean Basin and the eleventh in the world, with a coastline of 13,676 km. Eighty percent of the country’s mountain is the highest mountain of Mount Olympos 2,918 meters.
