Africa is the second largest continent in the world in terms of area and population density. It covers 6% of the world’s surface area and 24.4% of the world’s land with an area of ​​30.8 million km² along with the islands considered to be adjacent to it. [2] With a population of 1 billion, it hosts 15% of the world’s population. Africa is surrounded by the Mediterranean in the north, the Indian Ocean in the south, the Atlantic Ocean in the west, the Sinai Peninsula in the east, the Red Sea and the Suez Canal. It includes Madagascar and various archipelago. There are 54 diplomatically recognized independent states, nine regions and 3 limited recognized states on the continent.

Among all continents, the youngest population is in Africa. 50% of Africans are under the age of 19. Algeria is Africa’s largest country in terms of area, while Nigeria is the largest country in terms of population. West Africa in particular is considered to be the starting point of mankind. In addition to the early great humanoid apes, the late Homo sapiens, evidenced by the evolution of species such as Sahelanthropus tchadensis, Australopithecus africanus, A. afarensis, Homo erectus, H. habilis, and H. ergaster, which were seven million years earlier, findings were found in Ethiopia. [3] Africa is the only continent on both sides of the equator with a wide range of climatic zones and on both climates of the world.
